Freddie Breks long awaited first short story!

Freddie Barney Brek and the Curious Caterpillar Catastrophe 

Far out in the countryside, past the pond where the wild birds live and over the hill of the tastiest meadow grass, lives Freddie Barney Brek in The Pansyted Cottage. Freddie enjoys the simple things in life in his cosy little cottage. He sings along to his favourite songs whilst doing chores in the sunshine and updating his friends on Pigstagram of his daily adventures,  but by far his favourite thing to do is to tend to his award winning vegetable patch in his cottage garden.

It was coming up to harvest season for Freddie so with his ‘mermaid songs’ mixtape on and basket in his paw, he went out to his veg patch to pick all his delicious crops. 

“A little pawful of basil here” sang Freddie with glee “and a basketful of mini carrots there”

He rounded up a delicious selection of vegetables and herbs including the sweetest strawberries and tangiest dill that would make even the world's best gardeners jealous! As he popcorned all the way back in to his house Freddie's thoughts turned to what amazing meals he would look forward too.

A few minutes passed and Freddie, too excited at the delicious snacks he brought in, felt his tummy grumble!

“I can't wait” he squeaked “I must eat those tasty treats right now!” He started to plate up the most colourful plate of veggies. He quickly sat down to begin his meal when all of a sudden he felt a curious tickling! Freddie paused for a moment

“Strange...that's not my whiskers” he thought “must be the breeze”

He tried to take a nibble again but the tickling returned

“Curious...that's not my nose” he thought “I've not done a sneeze”

He tried to take another bite but the tickling wouldn't stop!

“Hahahaha, heeheehee, that strange tickling is coming from my tiny toes!” he exclaimed.

Freddie looked down at his paws and between his little pig toes was a bright green caterpillar! He had snuck in on Freddie's crops and was looking to try and take a bite of Freddie's food!

“Oh no you cheeky creature” said Freddie in shock “how did you get in here?”

Realising the little caterpillar had been filling up his tummy on crops Freddie's heart began to sink. He had spent all that time growing, watering and tending to his veggies and couldn't bear to see them be eaten by anyone but himself. Then Freddie thought that the caterpillar must have been eating them for a reason!

Being a rodent of the modern world, Freddie booted up his little pink laptop and browsed the internet for answers until finally he realised why the little bug been eating all his veggies! 

Freddie scooped up the little caterpillar in his little paws and took the creature to the farthest reaches of his garden away from his precious veggies but also away from any spooky birds or dangers

“Be safe my new friend” he whispered as he tucked the caterpillar away and hurried back indoors

Days passed as Freddie waited patiently near his window, looking over to the corner where he hidden his new friend away to keep him safe wondering when he would ever see them again but soon enough Freddie was in shock! His new friend had turned from a little green caterpillar in to the most magnificent and radiant butterfly you had ever seen, with wings shimmering in the sunshine and the most colourful colours you had ever seen all thanks to Freddie's veggies!

The new butterfly fluttered up to the window and danced around in front of Freddie, almost in a way to say thank you and to reward Freddie for his kindness before flying away to dance away in the breeze, leaving Freddie full of happiness in his soul and full of veggies in his tummy!
