Fun in the garden and summer tips

The weather has warmed up and the Pansyted pigs have been out on the grass for the first time this year. It was Dilberts first time out on the grass and he really loved it and was not shy at all. If you’re new to keeping piggies I thought I’d share with you a few tips we have for fun out in the garden!

Firstly make sure you have a suitable enclosure for them to play in, I think it’s better to be safe than sorry so we prefer a fully enclosed run with a lid which means they’re much more protected from predators such as cats, dogs or even birds. For this reason we also always use a pet carrier box to carry them out in the garden, we place this inside the run and let them walk out when they are ready.

Another thing to consider is the temperature and weather conditions outside, the weather should be dry and mild. If it is a very hot day we would avoid putting them out at the hottest times, their run should be positioned in the shade and covered with a parasol or blanket to provide shade. Also check on them at regular intervals to make sure the sun has not moved around. Piggies can get heat stroke and sun burn so be sure to make sure they aren’t in direct sunlight. It is also very important to give the hiding places out in their run as they are prey animals and like to have safe places to hide. This one is more obvious but they should also have a supply of fresh water to drink.

If your piggies haven’t been out on the grass before or it’s the first time they’re eating grass for a while limit their time to start with. If piggies eat too much grass straight away it can give them bloated tummies so we always build it up gradually.

We hope you enjoyed these tips
